Some people just don`t get it !

Just found a small news posting on a german web page (http://www.k-hardware.de/news.php?s=n0b0dy&news_id=949) pretending that Matrox is already lowering the price of Parhelia as a consequence due to the "mediocre performance" compared to the GF4 series graphics cards:

"Geplant war der Parhelia zu einem horrenden Preis von gut 549.- €, schnell korrigierte man diese Aussage auf 500.- € und nun steht er sogar bei 445,80 €. Ein gar nicht mal so schlechter Preisrutsch, vor allem wenn man bedenkt, dass der Parhelia gerade einmal einen Monat auf dem Markt ist.
Damit nicht genug, schon starten die nächsten Spekulationen über einen weiteren Preisrutsch. Anvisiert ist dabei ein Wert von knapp unter 400.- €, welcher dann beim erscheinen der 64MByte und 256MByte Versionen in Kraft treten soll. Matrox scheint, im Anbetracht der mäßigen Performance der Karte im Verhältnis zu den günstigeren Geforce 4 Ti Karten, die ersten Konsequenzen zu ziehen. Ob man noch etwas in Petto hat, ist eher unwahrscheinlich und selbst wenn doch, dann dürfte es im Vergleich zu der kommenden ATI R300 wiedereinmal nur ein mäßiger Erfolg werden."

As this is complete BS, I sent them an e-mail to clear up the situation:

I told him to do his homework: The price of €445,80,- obviously refers to the european store. But this is a net price without taxes and shipping/handling fees. If you sum it up to the relevant retail price, you notice immediately, that it`s more or less the same price |P| costs everywhere. And it`s the price at which |P| was announced !!

I can't see the "mediocre performance", that is absolutely BS. It just beats the GF4Ti in high resolutions w/ AA + Aniso, as all the benchmarks have shown. How long are these K-Hardware guys in the business? They should know that the street price is ALWAYS lower than the suggested retail price.

Very nice! The guy had the balls to reply to my e-mail. But he told me that he corrected the price to € 423,27,- because Hitek Austria sells bulk Parhelias at this price level.

He infers that Matrox has drawn consequences (due to mediocre performance compared to GF4) from the normal street price, which is lower most of the times !

Therefore I wrote him back:

"Erstmal vielen Dank an dieser Stelle für Dein Feedback. Leider haben wir beide anscheinend ein bisschen aneinander vorbeigeredet.
Du schreibst in deiner Antwort-Mail: "Ich hoffe jedoch, dass der nun aktuellere und niedrigere Preis mich bestätigt und zwar (so hoffe ich) auch in deinen Augen."
Ich habe doch niemals angezweifelt, dass du in irgendwelchen Online-Shops Parhelias zu Preisen findest, die sich unterhalb dessen befinden, was Matrox in seinem eigenen Online-Shop verlangt. Denn Strassenpreise liegen meistens unterhalb der unverbindlichen Preisempfehlung des Herstellers ! Wenn du folglich bei HiTek eine Parhelia um € 423,27,- findest ist das ganz normal. Es muss sich dabei aus oben genannten Gründen jedoch nicht automatisch um eine Preissenkung seitens Matrox handeln.
Von einer Preissenkung seitens Matrox kann man meiner Meinung nach nur dann sprechen, wenn:

1. Matrox den Verkaufspreis im eigenen Online-Shop ändert oder
2. Matrox den Verkaufspreis für OEM`s bzw. die Grossdistributoren ändert

Nur in diesen beiden Fällen ist der "Tatbestand der Preissenkung" erfüllt. Da in diese Richtung aber nichts bekannt ist, handelt es sich bei deiner Newsmeldung leider weiterhin um eine Falschmeldung. Matrox zieht keine Konsequenzen und hat den Preis nicht gesenkt !"

He he, I did not receive any feedback to my last mail. Logical argumentation seems to be a good "weapon" !

Unfortunately the guy did not remove the article - but that`s exactly what I expected. After reading some more of his articles, I can truely say the guy is what I define as a classic nVidiot.
